1. Get Moving

Although it feels like we are constantly moving during the holiday season, it can be difficult to work actual exercise into your busy schedule. Between going shopping, wrapping presents, and traveling, who has time to go to the gym? While you don’t necessarily need to go to the gym, it’s still important to get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day.

2. Stay Hydrated

When you’re running all over the place to complete your Christmas shopping, it’s easy to forget to drink water along the way. Next thing you know, you’ve been out all day without a single sip of water. This is a major problem since experts recommend that you consume at least eight eight-ounce glasses of water each day. 

The good news is that there are ways that you can easily incorporate hydration into your hectic life. Before you leave the house, fill up a water bottle and bring it with you! Take some sips when you’re shopping, driving to the next store, or wrapping the awesome presents you found. 

3. Maintain a Sleep Schedule

We all love to stay up late during the holiday season sitting by the fire, listening to Christmas music, drinking hot chocolate, and wrapping presents. Plus, staying up late to get things done is tempting when it seems like there are never enough hours in the day to get everything done. However, staying up late really isn’t good for your health or diet as it encourages late-night snacking. 

Try to get at least eight hours of sleep every night — not just during the holidays but during the entire year! To make it easier to get to sleep at night, try putting your phone down to help you relax before bedtime. Also, make sure that your room is dark, cozy, and cool with things like blackout curtains, soft sheets, and a fan. 

4. Limit Eating Out

When visiting friends and family, everyone always wants to go out to eat. Unfortunately, eating out multiple times a day definitely isn’t good for your diet and healthy eating habits. While there are certainly healthy options at most restaurants, odds are that these meals aren’t nearly as healthy as the ones you make at home. 

Instead of eating out, suggest having people over for a balanced dinner. If you’re not able to host, offer to cook at someone else’s house or bring over healthy food for everyone to share. 

5. Eat at the Right Times

Having time off for the holidays is incredible, however, it can lead to an irregular schedule that can mess up your mealtimes. For example, say you get up late and need to head to the store for some last-minute shopping. It can be really tempting to just stop for coffee and doughnuts on the way there. Or say that you get home late after a long day of shopping and errands, it seems so much easier to just order takeout rather than taking the time to actually cook dinner. 

So instead of skipping meals or waiting so long to eat that you don’t want to bother making anything healthy, try to stick to a regular meal schedule for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
